Attention Bread Baking Buddies

It has come to my attention that I have two friends that are on the path to creating the perfect loaf of bread. :) I don't know if you read each other's blogs, but if not, I feel the need to network for you.

Check out these links...

I'm sure there were more but I can't find them.

I do this with the full selfish intent that if you keep my mouth watering with awesome bread posts then I might actually get off my duff and make some...especially so I can teach Emily as she has been asking me to teach her how to make bread. (Wow what a run on sentence--deep breath)

So see...I knead you!

Oh, all this talk about bread making makes me sad. I used to never buy bread, I always made mine - not that I was perfect at it, but I love homemade bread. Until one sad day when I found out I was allergic to wheat. Brenda - the bread recipe on your blog sounded awesome. Everyone enjoy a slice (or loaf) for me. Maybe some day I can eat wheat again . . . sigh! On a bright note, I have taken up eating spelt again, and am looking forward to making my spelt bread recipe this weekend - it's almost as good as wheat, but not quite.

Guess I should have mentioned this in my latest post, but the biggest thing that helped me was checking out Peter Reinhart's book "Bread Baker's Apprentice" and reading very carefully through his 12 steps of bread. While I'm still learning to 'feel' my way through the process, I use a spoon to combine the ingredients then mix it by hand.

The wheat bread recipe I just made was from "The Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book," just the basic recipe. I want to read through the beginning of this as well since it was recommended very highly by a friend. Our library didn't have it till I requested they buy it.

Now I'm saving my money for a wheat grinder.

Marni: Thanks for the book titles. I added them to my goodreads list! I can't wait to read up.

Sharon...what is spelt??? I hope it tastes better then it sounds. :)

Spelt IS better than it sounds. It's an "ancient" type of wheat, and is a bit hardier than wheat. It's kind of like eating whole whole wheat bread ;) However, since it is related to wheat, I'm not entirely free of symptoms when I eat it; but I just can't go entirely without bread, and am willing to deal with the consequences.
