I thought I was going to get a pirate for halloween...

but instead I got a X-Ray Vision Super Hero!

A couple of weeks ago Savanna's Kindergarten teacher mentioned she had a lazy eye and had I noticed it. Uh, yes I'll be accepting the mother of the year award sometime...never...for not ever even once noticing that she had a lazy eye. If I knew she had a lazy eye I would have whipped it into shape, made it do exercises, learn to be responsible...oh wait, yeah I wouldn't have done that. But it doesn't matter because I didn't even know!

The eye doctor, his nurse/tech and all those professionals tried to tell me it was OK that I didn't know...but then they proceeded to ask me questions like...How long has it been going on? Uh...two weeks--as far as I know. Does it bother her? Uh....No...never mentioned it before? Does she have double vision? Uh...how would I know that anyway? So, yes I felt like a loser Mom--especially when I found out that my suspected cure for the problem would be a temporary patch to get that other eye pulling its share...was so not even close. My little sweet near and farsighted super hero will soon have her own special {prescription} power BIFOCALS. YES BIFOCALS. She's 5...well almost 6 and she'll have BIFOCALS. When the doctor said, 'You seem surprised about this'. I had to agree.
And when Savanna worried that the kids would tease her about her magnificent sun glasses I told her to tell them:
I just went to the super hero store and now I have X-Ray Vision!

Great pictures - Savanna looks so great in those shades. Did you ask the Dr. how you might have recognized that she had a lazy eye? I mean, how do you know what to look for? Without it hanging out on the couch and eating ice cream, how were you supposed to know it was lazy? :)

All that ice cream eating SHOULD have been my first clue. *giggle* It's actually more of a 'drifting' eye. Lazy and a drifter...sounds dangerous.

I love how they grilled you about the eye problem when you didn't know she had it (until a few weeks ago). She sure looks cute in those super hero glasses.

I never noticed it either. Never had a clue. Mike says he noticed it but didn't think much of it. but anyway, my little budddy and I can share bifocals together.

Oh, don't feel like a loser mom. It's not like you knew and then didn't take her for 5 years.

Once I hauled Meg to the doctor fearing that she was having an allergic reaction that may close off her breathing and kill her. Apparently it was just infant acne. See, we are all clueless. It's not like they come with an instruction booklet attached to their cord.

Isn't it nice to know that they can do something to fix it. Probably most kids aren't identified until kindergarten anyway, unless it's really noticeable. Love ya,

I had bifocals early on, but that was because my parents signed me up for this test where they put drops in your eyes and paralyze them, hoping to stop them from getting worse. Didn't work. After a few years of that (4? 5? 6?) they stopped the drops and I didn't need bifocals anymore.

I was talking to Kim Hardcastle (he's our scout district exec) the other day and he was talking about what an amazing mother you are, so there's no hiding it. You're just trying to hide it because you have so many idols, you have to try and show holes in our armor to keep your adoring fans away.

You totally made up for the *oversight* with the super hero xray vision idea. Love it. You ARE and cool mom!

You all made me feel better about being clueless. And Marni, I can't for the life of me think what Kim would say about me. I hope you set him straight. :)
