A higher sense of humor

I got a new calling. For those of you unfamiliar with my faith, it is the practice for each member in a congregation to hold a position to make sure all functions of the congregation are performed.

There are a few 'dreaded' positions foremost the calling of NURSERY LEADER. A close second would be GOSPEL DOCTRINE TEACHER. I got one of those and it wasn't the nursery leader one.

This is where I know God has a sense of humor, for no mortal man would think it a grand idea for ME to teach adults the deep gospel doctrine of the Old Testament. But apparently God does.

And as it turns out, he must have a sense of humor about how I get these calls. For when I was called as the nursery leader, the person in charge made one slight slip and forgot to ASK me before announcing it over the pulpit as is custom. He knew it instantly as my head jerked up in surprise and maybe a 'little' trepidation. This time as it turns out...I was just given a warning. The Sunday School Counselor in charge of teachers gave me a call and the conversation went something like this.

SS: Since you are one of the new Gospel Doctrine Teachers would you mind teaching on Sunday?
ME: I think you have the wrong number...me no speaky english. Oh yeah, and nobody bothered to tell ME that I was a new Gospel Doctrine teacher.

As it all turns though I think this is just a cosmic plan to get Mike to regularly attend class because you KNOW he'll be there when I teach...or else.

LOL! Good luck with that! I'm sure you'll be fabulous, but I definitely get the fear of it all. Thank goodness for manuals.

Does that ward over there have the handbook on how to extend callings? Or did those pages fall out? You should definitely file a complaint. Though I do remember that husband of yours extending one to me over pizza with children running around, and wondering when I got home if it was really a calling or not. It was.

Can I trade you callings? My dreaded callings list doesn't include either of those two. But they might if I ever had to do them.

Definately a dreaded calling, but I know you'll do great! You can learn a lot about someone from reading their blog, and the Lord must know-- you've got what it takes! :) Good luck!

Amanda....uh no, you can keep your calling. :)I'd much rather have mine. Thanks for the offer though.

Thanks for all the good wishes, I'll need them when we hit Isaiah!

The horror! Teaching adults anything is my dreaded calling list. I don't mind Nursery. I fit right in.

My dad taught Gospel Doctrine for years, and did a great job, and he loved it. I didn't get that gene...AT ALL!

Good luck! For some reason I think you will do fabulous.

I had to teach Gospel Doctrine four years ago when it was Old Testament. I was 20 teaching a whole bunch of RMs in my student ward. I was scared to DEATH. Seriously. But it turned out to be pretty great. In fact, I wouldn't mind having it back. Good luck to you! :)

I am so sorry. That is truly a nightmare I've had. Kim would love and wants either one of those 2 jobs. He's crazy though.

Funny LeeAnn I was just telling Mike I wish Kim was still there because he always adds a bit of levity to a SS lesson. And coincidentally Kim is part of this post anyway since he was the one that extended the Nursery calling over the pulpit. LOL
