Photoshop Progress Report Glen Canyon Dam

Here is the bridge that passes over the Glen Canyon Dam.

Straight out of the camera

Photoshopped

Alright, tell me what you think? Did I overdo the colors? I struggle with making the pictures look authentic, but also capturing the majesty of the moment. My eyes saw rich deep colors when I took the picture, but that doesn't show up in the image straight from the camera.

To adjust this picture, I used the smart brush tool. Looks like a paint brush with a gear next to it. And boy was it smart. I created a copy layer then chose the 'blue skies' setting and did a couple of brushes in the sky. It automatically picked out all the sky and darkened the blues. I redid it on a different layer with the cloud contrast setting. I then on a third layer enhanced the color saturation for blues and reds. However, that was too bright so I changed the opacity to about 75%.
Alright, now I need some critiquing. :) I can't wait until my book shows up. It 'has left the warehouse!' :)

Thumbs up on the sky colors. Very nice.

Ya know, I'm not so sure about the colors. The red cliffs look good, but I'm not so sure about the sky. Our photo product has an "enhance" feature that Ken loves, but I think it makes things not look like a "normal" color. So . . . the jury is still out ;)

I'm thinking the sky color is a bit turquoisey to be realistic. The color of sky in my watchtower photo is not enhanced, but that is more what I think of when you have a deep blue sky. I do like how you can see the clouds distinctly though.

I really like it. I showed it to my husband and he thought it looked a little turquoise. I don't have the smart brush with my version.

You are doing great with Photoshop. Let me know how you like the book after you've had a chance to read it.

Okay, I see a little turquoise too now that everyone said that. But, I'm sticking to my guns: I like it.
